QUOTES:

Affordable "Smart" Home Security: A smart tip for homeowners not to tip off burglars that you're out of town is to not leave outside lights on round the clock. But you don't need to hire a house sitter or get a friend to come to your home each day to turn the lights on and off. For our outdoor lights, we use dusk-to-dawn bulbs. They are very affordable for the security they provide (and far less expensive than installing dusk-to-dawn light fixtures!). Plus, we never have to come home to a dark home on days we get home after sunset. I also bought a few inexpensive "smart plugs" and indoor "smart bulbs" that I can control with Amazon's Alexa app, which allows me to turn lamps and lights on and off inside my home in the evenings when we're away. I also use one of the smart plugs at Christmas to control our tree lights so we don't have to reach behind the tree to plug and unplug them. You may assume "smart" technology is expensive, but many simpler devices are affordable (and easy to use!).
